Gayatri Japam day is linked with Upakarma and it is observed on the next of Shravani Upakarma day. 

Gayathri Mantra is considered to be very powerful mantra to purify the mind thereby giving a lasting prosperity and peace:

Meaning of the Gayatri Mantra

Bhūr: Represents the physical realm or earth.

Tat: "That" – referring to the Supreme Being, the ultimate reality.

Bhargo: Effulgence, divine light, spiritual radiance that destroys ignorance.

Devasya: Of the Divine, the Supreme Lord.

Dhīmahi: We meditate upon, we contemplate.

Dhiyo: Intellect, understanding.

Yo: Who, which.

Na: Our.

Prachodayāt: May inspire, enlighten, or guide.

A widely accepted translation of the Gayatri Mantra is:
