Maha Shiva Rathri – Great Night of Shiva – was celebrated on the 4 th March 2019 with fervor and festivity throughout India and in our Neighboring country Nepal. There are many mythological legends associated with this day. According to a popular legend, when a hunter could not find anything to kill for his food in a forest, he waited on the branch of a Vilva tree. In order to keep himself awake, he started throwing the leaves of the tree on the ground, unaware that there was a Shiva Lingam beneath the tree. Though it was his inadvertent act of plugging Vilva Patra and offering to Lord Shiva below the tree, Lord Shiva appeared in front of the hunter and blessed him with wisdom. Having enlightened, the hunter became Satvik and devotee of Shiva thereafter leaving his hunter profession. Another legend has it that after the Earth was faced with an imminent destruction, Goddess Parvati pleaded to Lord Shiva to save the world. In response
