Greatness of Thai Poosam – on Thursday, 28th January 2021
The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam. This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. Hindu Mythology believes that the world came into existence on this auspicious day. It is also believed that on this day, Lord Siva and His consort Uma Devi blessed the sage Vyagrapadha and Patanjali with their blissful cosmic dance in Chidambaram. It is also believed that Murugan was presented with a most powerful weapon called ‘Vel” (spear) so that Murugan could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman and his brothers. Apart from these ancient Godly episodes to indicate the greatness of this day, there is one more latest historic event to add to the glory of this date.
