Navathri, Dussehra and Durga Festivals – From 10-10-2018 to 19-10-2018

These festivals are being celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. These festivals are associated with great Epics of Ramayana and Mahabharatha . Dussehra is celebrated because Shri Ram killed the demon King Ten Headed Ravana after a 9 day battle with him and freed his wife Goddess Sita from Ravana’s captivity. And on this day, Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasur and hence this day is also celebrated as Vijayadasami (Victory). It is believed that Shri Ram had also prayed to Goddess Durga for strength and before granting Him his wish, Durga wanted to test Rama’s reverence towards her. For that Durga removed one lotus out the 108 lotus flowers with which Rama was praying Durga .
