Navathri, Dussehra and Durga Festivals – From 10-10-2018 to 19-10-2018

These festivals are being celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. These festivals are associated with great Epics of Ramayana and Mahabharatha.
Dussehra is celebrated because Shri Ram killed the demon King Ten Headed Ravana after a 9 day battle with him and freed his wife Goddess Sita from Ravana’s captivity.
And on this day, Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasur and hence this day is also celebrated as Vijayadasami (Victory).
It is believed that Shri Ram had also prayed to Goddess Durga for strength and before granting Him his wish, Durga wanted to test Rama’s reverence towards her. For that Durga removed one lotus out the 108 lotus flowers with which Rama was praying Durga. When Ram reached the end of His prayers and on realizing that one Lotus was missing, Ram ventured to offer his own eye to Durga to complete His prayer. Durga immediately stopped Ram and granted Ram boon to win Ravana in the battle. Hence Dussehra symbolizes the triumph of good – Ram and Durga over evil – Ravana and Mahishasur.
Mahabhara also plays a role in the Dussehra festival. On returning from Vanavasa, Pandavas on this day retrieved their weapons hidden in a Shami tree and won the war in Kurushetra, culminating victory over evil.

In South India, Navarathri is being celebrated in all Hindus’ Houses with Kolu wherein dolls are displayed on uneven number of steps – say 3, 5, 7 9 or 11. First three days of Navarathri Goddess Durga is worshiped, followed by Goddess Lakshmi during the next three days and finally Goddess Saraswati on the last three days.

On these 10 days, entire India will be in festive mood uniting all Hindus in these festive seasons. Hinduism is a colourful, delightful and vibrant religion spreading joys in the homes and spearheading spiritual energy and meaning through out Bharath so that Life becomes pleasant.
Exactly 20 days after Dussehra, Hindus will be celebrating Dipavali on 6th November 2018 – festivals of lights which is also a festival to celebrate the victory of  good over evil – Krishna’s Victory over Narakasura.
E-Touch prays on these happy festivals to all our members a healthy long and meaningful life.
