MARGAZHI MONTH – GOD’S MONTH – SPECIAL SPIRITUAL MONTH TO STABILISE BODY AND MIND

As Lord Krishna proclaimed in the Bhagavad Gita - Month of Margazhi is Mine, Margazhi Month is dedicated to God and God alone. Hence during this month, people of Southern States – viz Tamilnadu , Karnataka, Kerala and Andhrapradesh which includes Telengana are fully engaged in Bhajans, Music, Devotional Dance performances, Spiritual Discourses etc.

In this month, people perform nagarsankeerthan – unjavirthi rituals where women folks will offer rice and circle round the bhakthas who sing devotional songs along with musical instruments like thamburas, mridangams, cymbals and subla khata. These are being performed very early morning around Temples. The Bhakthas gather in front of the temple to start their nama sankeerthans and go around the four streets around the temple and conclude in front of the temple.

Reciting Andal Thirupavai and Manickavasagar Thiruvambavai are considered very auspicious in the month of Margazhi. Apart from these recitals, Upanyasams about Ramayanam, Mahabharatham,  Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavadam and many other religious bhakthi literatures are being arranged in many places where people gather in large numbers to listen to these religious musical discourses.

During this month of God, ladies will get up very early in the morning and sweep the streets in front of their houses and draw large kolams as a mark of devotions to god. Apart from religious and spiritual peace that the women get by these artistic talents , these give them peace of mind which energize them  for the rest of the months.

During the month of Margazhi, there are no  Hindu festivals to celebrate and hence the entire energy and attention will be concentrated  towards  performance of poojas, bhajans, decorations and offerings to Gods.

Margazhi Musical and Dance Festival is very famous in Tamilnadu especially in Chennai. The entire month is kept apart for music and spiritual activities by many people. During this month of Margazhi, more than 3,500 concerts take place in Chennai making it one of the biggest music and dance festival in the world.

Thyagarajar Kirthanas and Arunagirinathar Thirupukash will also be sung by devotees  with utmost devotion in the various temple premises throughout Southern States.

During the months of Karthikai and Margazhi, many devotees will start their viratas for their pilgrimage to sabarimalai by wearing sacred malas and their devotional songs also will fill the airs to the solace of many citizens. Sarana Goshams – Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa – will reverberate to create a solemn and spiritual atmosphere to cleanse the mind from lust and to elevate it higher levels of solace and peace and healthy thoughts. Margashi being declared as a Month of God, every Hindu is duty bound to respond to the call of Lord Krishna to have HIS blessings which will energise him throughout the year.

MAY THIS HOLY MONTH MARGAZHI BRING US HAPPINESS, HEALTH, WEALTH AND LONG PEACEFUL LIFE.

E-TOUCH PRAYS FOR YOU ALL.
