MODI’S DEMONETIZATION - IS IT A TRAGEDY OR THE REMEDY?

Image
The renowned Newspaper - The Hindu - had published two articles about Modi’s Demonetization - one arguing as a Tragedy and another refuting as a Remedy. The article “Making a mammoth tragedy” is by Dr.Manmohan Singh, while the other article “Not a tragedy, but the remedy” is by S. Gurumurthy. Dr.Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, had, in his article titled “Making a mammoth tragedy” in the Hindu, argued giving his points of views of which the main points are herein brought out in a nutshell and the entire article can be viewed by clicking the link here: LINK ·    Money is an idea that inspires confidence and Modi by his demonetization announcement at the stroke of the midnight hour on November 9, 2016 has destroyed the confidence of more than a billion Indians. Modi’s intentions - to stop circulation of fake currencies and to break the grip of corruption and black money - are honourable and deserve to be supported whole-heartedly. But his good intentions have pav

The People Are My High Command - MODI THUNDERS POST DEMONETISATION IN MORADABAD PARIVARTAN PUBLIC ADDRESS

Modi Said:  The long queues outside banks ever since the demonetisation would be the last queues the country would see. We had to stand in queue to buy sugar. We had to stand in queue to buy kerosene. We had to stand in queue to buy wheat. Thanks to those who ruled for 60 years, this country was wasting away in queues. What I have done is to start a queue to end all queues. Modi further explained: I have not fought from Uttar Pradesh only to become an MP but wanted to initiate the fight against poverty from this huge state. Will corruption go on its own? It has to be driven out. Is fighting corruption a crime? Why are some people calling me a wrongdoer for fighting corruption? Today those who have stashed black money are queuing up outside the house of poor people, asking for their help. Have you ever seen rich people touching the feet of poor? Want to tell poor people in whose account money has been deposited, don’t touch that money, if they insi

Demonetization - Effects and Defects

8th November 2016 was a red letter day for all honest citizens of India who could sleep soundly after hearing the Modi’s announcement of demonetization, while those with black money under their carpets had to rush to the medical stores in search of sleeping pills! Yes, Modi had on that day announced in a broadcast to the nation the demonetization of high value currencies of Rs.500/- and Rs.1000/- with immediate effect from the midnight of that day. Even the word - DEMONetization - contains ‘Demon’ which is being annihilated by the 8th November Master Stroke Announcement. Demon here means black - corrupt - terror - counterfeit currencies that are responsible for all evils of thwarting the peace and economic progress of India as a whole and also tarnishing the image of our country as well.   Modi, in the course of his announcement, had remarked: “The move complements the country’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign). For years, this coun

My Personal Experience Post Demonetization

I heard the speech of Modi announcing the demonetization of Rs.500/- and Rs.1,000/- and was really shocked and worried whether there would be violent demonstrations by the public against this dare devil move. But, to my pleasant surprise, there were no riots or protests, though the public were put to sufferings in exchanging their demonetized notes by standing in long queues for hours and even being disappointed not being able to get things done and more so, in drawing their own money from banks/ atms . Due to recalibration, all ATMS had become non-functional adding further troubles for the common men. Yet and in spite of Media and opposition parties especially Congress, TMC and AAP wishing the demonetization to burst into major upheaval, no major incidents took place – except the most unfortunate deaths of approximately 45/50 persons supposed to have died due their standing in queues for exchange of demonetized notes. Though complete normalcy is not restored, the public had apprec

GOOD AND SERVICES TAX (GST)

Goods and Services Tax Bill or GST Bill which is officially known as The Constitution (122 Amendment) Bill, 2014 is set to become operational from the 1st April 2017.  This bill is widely hailed as a historical tax reform , as it is expected to transform India into a unitary market, lower transaction and logistics costs, spread the tax net wider and propel investments and growth.  As of now, Indirect Taxes suffer from multiple taxations on different rates by different States with increased cascading effect of tax on the cost of goods and services due to ‘Tax on Tax’ and worst the ‘Tax Terrorisms’ on the economy - manufacturers, traders and even consumers. GST is addressing these problems by amalgamating several Central and State taxes into a single tax thereby mitigating cascading or double taxation. And this will aim at ‘One Nation – One Taxation’ which will go a long way in making India a most favoured nation for investments thereby India becoming a Developed Nation sooner
