Grand Celebration of Lights on the Eve of Deepavali on the banks of Sarayu River at Ayodhya
Photo Album
Ayodhya and Deepavali have a legendary connection. It is believed that Lord Rama,
wife Sita, Brother Lakshmana and Lord Hanuman returned to Ayodhya from Sri Lanka after Rama defeating
Ravana and the occasion is being
celebrated as Deepavali .
Rama’s return to Ayodhya after exile of 14 years and Rama’s
triumph of good over evil are being celebrated by Hindus across the world and
more so by the people of Ayodhya by lighting Diyas to welcome Lord
Ram, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman.
Yogi Adityanath Government in UP celebrated Deepavali
Festival at Ayodhya in a grand manner on the day of Deepavali – 18th October 2017 and one of the major attractions were lighting
of 1.71 lakh diyas along the banks
of Saryu river thereby creating the Guinness
World Record for largest display of oil lamps breaking the earlier record of
controversial jailed Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of 1.5 lakh diyas at an event on September 2016.
Besides lighting a
record number of diyas in Ayodhya on the Deepavali day, the Uttar Pradesh government
had also organised a series of programmes to mark Diwali.
A heritage walk
from Kanchan Bhavan to Nageshwardham, reminiscing the
return of Rama to Ayodhya, was also organized. A Ramlila was also staged by international
artists from Indonesia and Thailand as part of the Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya.
Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath and Governor Ram Naik were present to inaugurate various programmes and they performed the grand aarti of Saryu river followed by a laser show on the river’s banks.
The practice of
holding Ramlila in Ayodhya was started by the then Chief
Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in May 2004 but was stopped during Akhilesh Yadav’s regime after the cultural
department refused to grant aid for the function.
Ayodhya was plunged in festivities and
people in large numbers participated in lighting Diyas on the bank of Sarayu river.
Chanting of Jai
Sri Ram had rent the air and it was special Deepavali Festival for the people of Ayodhya which will be remembered by them
with reverence for many days.
A photo album above will reflect the
grandeur of the Deepavali Festival celebrated at Ayodhya – the birth place of Lord Rama
whose rule is praised as Ram Rajya. Even Mahatma Gandhi wanted a Ram Rajya for India and we hope that the days are not far off to reach that levels
of prosperity and peace.
