GURU PURNIMA OR VYSAR PURNIMA ON THE 3RD JULY 2023

Vysar Purnima means the Birth Anniversary of Vysa Muni .

Gautama Buddha was believed to have given his first Sermon at Sarnath on this very auspicious day.  Hence this day is also celebrated as Buddha Purnima .

Even Jains observe this day as as Treenok Guha Purnima.

Above all, Lord Shiva is recognised as the very first guru in the yogic tradition.

It is believed that Lord Shiva appeared as a yogi to the saptarishis, or the seven sages, in the Himalayas on this day to explain the teachings of yoga. Shiva is also revered as an Adiyogi for this reason.

As the name suggests, the day is specifically dedicated to Guru, both spiritual and academic ones, as they bring one from darkness to light, from ignorance to enlightenment.

Saptarishis was taught by Lord Shiva and they distributed knowledge of Shiva to the whole world.

“Gu” means darkness and “Ru” means dispelling. “Guru” means One who dispels darkness - The preceptor who dispels the darkness of ignorance. On Guru Poornima  we celebrate the dispersal of ignorance and pay our respects to Lord Shiva – who is the First Guru followed by Veda Vyas and ending with our teachers.

Vyasa is represented as the guru of Dattatreya.. He was known as the guru of all gurus.

Vyas is believed to have begun writing the Brahma Sutras on Guru Purnima. Vyasa also edited the four Vedas and wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata, and the Srimad Bhagavatam.

Guru Purnima is being observed across India and It generally falls on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashadha.

Mahatma Gandhi revived the celebration as a memorial to Shrimad Rajchandra, his spiritual mentor.

In Nepal, it is celebrated as Teacher’s Day.

E-touch pay its obeisance to Lord Shiva, Veda Vyas, Buddha and Jains Lord Mahavira.
