NICE IS NICE
Satyameva Jayate:
The first word NICE is the abbreviation for Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises and the second word nice is an adjective.
NICE which was entrusted with the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project referred to as BMIC project, could not complete the project – the remaining portion of the peripheral and link roads on account of stalling of the work by the H.D.Kumaraswamy government due to various allegations of corruptions, nepotisms, land grapping, irregular tenders etc.
The JD(S) partnered Congress and BJP coalition governments put in every possible effort to stop the project, but the Supreme Court came in the way of the Kumarasway government’s plan. The government was rapped on five occasions by the high court and the SC in the past three years.
The saddest part of the story is that the NICE had already completed 39.5 km of the total length of 41 km of peripheral road and 7.1 km of the 9.1 km of link road and only 4.5 km of expressway is to be completed. The remaining portions of the roads and the interchanges are incomplete owing to non-availability of lands due to the unhelpful attitudes of the H.D.Kumaraswamy’s government.
Due to the present governor’s rule in Karnataka, the Government has given its green signal to the NICE to complete the remaining project work as per Supreme Court’s directions.
As NICE had already completed more than 95% of the project work, it is unethical and undemocratic act of the next Government assuming power to stall the work. The best course should be to allow NICE to complete its work by allotting the required land for the purpose and then take them to task for any irregularities etc. As the project is an infrastructure one and it is the people’s money, it is a brazen act of any government to stop its completion more so, at its fag end.
Hence, NICE is nice, as the people will be benefited fully by its completion.

News Update:
The paper news on the 9th May 2008 are not nice to NICE.
Due to the elections in progress, the Election Commission, in the wake of a complaint, considers the governor’s act as a violation of the code of conduct and has been asked to cancel the decision to allow NICE to go ahead with BMIC till May 28. The government is said to follow the directions of the Election Commission.
Again, completion of the remaining portion of the project is being held up and delayed.
Let us pray God that the new Government will take steps which will enable the completion of the project without any delay.
