Nikah al-Mutah By Pavithran

Nikha Muta is another obnoxious practice similar to Nikha Halala. Islam had not given any status for their women folks – they were being treated as chattel and commodity for sex and intercourse by males. Even to equate the sacred word Nikha with Muta – meaning simple Pleasure or Enjoyment and Halala – forcing divorced wife to have sex with another man to be eligible to take her back again as his wife – is by itself horrible and condemnable.

Muta Marriage in Islam is a temporary marriage for a fixed period for a consideration of money in the form of dowry. Hence Muta is clearly meant a marriage for pleasure. Further there is no restriction as to the number of Мutа-wives. One may contract a Muta form of marriage with as many wives at a time as he likes. The period of contract may be for days, weeks, months or years.  It was declared that Muta Marriage is not Sin as per Koran.
The passage dealing with Muta Marriage is extracted hereunder: This Allah has written for you, and all other women besides these are permitted to you, so that you may seek them out with your wealth, seeking chastity and not fornication. So when you have contracted temporary marriage [istimt'atum] with them, then give them their words. There is no sin on you for whatever you agree to after this. Indeed, Allah is Knowing, Wise. Al-Qur’an, Surah An-Nisa, Ayah 24
Muta is simply a contracted prostitution and to make it as a religious practice, it is a mere cloak to hide from the jaws of law. As for the poor women folk, it is most immoral practice – as her body is being traded upon under the guise of religious sanction.
Time is ripe to do away with this practice and the religious clerics should come forward without any ambiguity that the passage of Quran, though practiced earlier, is no more valid in the present society.
Hope that good sense prevails on those matter.
