Vaikunda Ekathasi – 06-01-2020 - Monday
On Vaikuntha Ekadashi, it is believed that
Gate of Vaikuntam – Gate of Heaven -
is opened this day and devotees who observe fast on Vaikuntha Ekadashi attain salvation by
going to Heaven. Vaikuntha Ekadashi is one of the
important and auspicious days for Hindus. It is dedicated to Vishnu. It occurs
in the Hindu calendar, in the month of Margashirsha (between December and January).
When observed, it bestows liberation from the cycle of
birth and death.
On this very auspicious day of Vaikunda Ekadasi, Sorka Vasal Doors in all Vishnu
Temples will be opened and this is one of the most important ritual on that
day.
The devotees will pass through the gate symbolically
indicating that they are assured of Vishnu’s abode – Heaven at the time of
their deaths. It is also believed that Vishnu himself keeps his doors of Heaven
open on that day and all fasting devotees are supposed to get an entry pass to
heaven.
It is the gate pass given by Lord Vishnu himself to all
his devotees for Heaven after death.
Special prayers, yagnas, discourses and speeches are arranged at Vishnu temples
across the world on this auspicious day.
The Shaiva sect observes the day as Trikoti Ekadashi, a religious
observance where all the deities in the Hindu pantheon pay obeisance to
Lord Sri Shiva at once.
Vaikuntha Ekadashi is very important
day for Tirumala Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam.
