3 NORTH EAST LAKSHMIES CROWNED MODI AGAIN

Image
Three North East Lakshmies were Tirupura, Nagaland and Meghalaya where the BJP as the major partner in Tirupura, the minor partner in Nagaland and the most insignificant partner in Meghalaya won the Assembly Elections to form the governments for the second term. This Success is to be written in bold Golden Letters as the BJP’s Developmental and Poverty Alleviation Programs  had actually thwarted the Anti-Incumbency factors amongst the majority of the voters.   North East Region consists of 8 States viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Tirupura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Sikkim. These States are called 8 Sisters of Main Land India and Modi had said that these States which were neglected by the then Delhi Congress Rulers had now become the main focus for Developmental Schemes in tune with the rest of other Indian States and that these 8 North East States are actually Ashta Lakmies – 8 Lakmies blessing rest of Indian States.    Spectacular Wins in Tirupura ...

HUMA – HEAVENLY BIRD – COURTESY: PAVITHRAN

Image
Greatness of Huma bird as mentioned in Vedas is really fascinating. This bird lives in the sky very high and never comes to the earth. The bird lays its egg in the sky. The egg, while it is falling towards earth, hatches and the young one opens its eyes in the heat of the atmospheric pressure and flies on its own away from the earth towards its mother bird. Huma bird lives always in the sky – never to have the feel of earth. Huma is indeed heavenly bird.    There is a very interesting story about a mythological ‘Home Bird’ in Oriental literature.   Though Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa said that it was a bird mentioned in the Vedas, there are no references to such a bird in Vedic literature. But there are indirect references elsewhere.   Ramakrishna pointed to Narendra (later Swami Vivekananda) and compared him to a Homa bird. This is what happened in the case of Adi Shankaracharya, Swami Vivekananda and the great Tamil saint Thiru Gnana Sambandhar. Even when they were ...

Salient Points from President Droupadi Murmu’s address of the 74th Republic Day

Image
A Salient Points from President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation on the eve of the 74th Republic Day, in New Delhi.   While Babasaheb Ambedkar and others gave us a map and a moral framework, the task of walking that path remains our responsibility. We have largely remained true to their expectations, and yet we realise that much remains to be done to realise Gandhiji's ideal of 'Sarvodaya', the upliftment of all.   We need to modify our lifestyle if we want our children to live happily on this fragile planet. One of the changes suggested pertains to food. I am happy to note that the United Nations accepted a suggestion from India and declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. Millets were essential ingredients of our diet and they are making a comeback among sections of society. Coarse grains like millets are eco-friendly as they require less water to grow and yet they provide high levels of nutrition. If more and more people turn to millets, it will help...

MATTER, HUMAN SOUL AND SUPREME SOUL BY S. SANKARAN

Image
( Based on the comments by Swami Tapasyananda) In Bhagavad Gita, soul is portrayed on many verses as changeless and imperishable and permanent. It is emphasized that Soul is nothing to do with matter or Prakriti and hence Soul is pure. But we are informed in a verse that matter or Prakriti is of two kinds – Lower and Higher Elements and Soul is equated as Higher Element whereby Soul becomes very much connected with matter. To make the subject matter of Soul still difficult, another verse indicates that Souls are divided into two categories – Perishable and Imperishable. It becomes still more difficult, as imperishable is also divided into Human Soul (Jivatma) and Supreme Soul (Purushothama). Let me quote the relevant passages before going into the details and their explanations: Chapter 7: Stanzas 4 to 6: Prakriti – Matter is divided into two parts – Lower and Higher. Lower one consists of eight elements viz. earth, water, fire, air, ether, ego, intellect and mind. Higher is only...
