Infatuated Decision

An allegorical story of a blind girl and her boy friend highlights infatuated decision.

The allegorical story is as follows:

"There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her,'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?'

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.' "

The story ends with this tragic note.

Here the boy friend was carried away by the girl's words which were actually coming from her lips not from her heart. He foolishly thought that by his noble donations of his own eyes, he could win over her and they could live as husband and wife happily thereafter. But all was shattered due to his infatuated opinion. Emotions and Empathy towards the girl had blurred him to see the true nature of the girl and he himself fell into a grave digged by himself.

The girl was by nature heartless and cruel which were concealed by her pleas and pleasant promises not out of true love and affection. She was selfish to the core which could not be detected by the boy friend due to his infatuations.

How did the boy friend not able to judge the girl correctly?

Intellect, in his case, had a back seat leaving emotional sympathy being the overriding factor clouding His Mind to make him to take a wrong decision based upon wrong opinion/judgement.

The girl's primary concern was to get rid of her blindness to 'see the world' and her promise 'then to marry him' are quite secondary and inconsequence. She could cleverly conceal her real intentions by showing false affections expressed by her hollow words.

Sweetened words are camouflaged as Pure Love by the blind girl. The poor boy friend could not detect her selfish mind bent upon to get her eye sights restored all due to his mind with full of thoughts of selfless sacrifices. These thoughts alone are upper most in his mind. Even after knowing that he was being cheated by the girl, he did not take any revenge on her or throw any curse upon her, but, simply asked her to take good care of Her Eyes - 'Beacuse before they were yours, they were mine!'

Can any one be more graceful, noble and godly than that Great Boy Friend?

'No, Never' - we want to shout aloud to be heard by one and all!

'Then, Tell Me Why?' - one may want to know.

It is because 'His Mind was Pure as Crystal'

Then, 'How can one keep the Mind as Pure as Crystal?' call for an answer.

To answer this question, let us go a little deeper into the working of Mind.

Mind can never be empty or vacuum. Mind will be full of thoughts and memories of all incidents past and present - good and bad and even evil.

Let us imagine Mind be a vessel with full of thoughts and memories - good and bad. Let us imagine good and bad thoughts in the range of 50-50. To improve the quality of Mind by increasing the good thoughts over the bad thoughts, one has to pump bad thoughts out to fill up the gap with good thoughts.

Suppose one make a small hole at the bottom of the vessel containing bad liquid at the bottom and good one over the bad floating, then it is easy to make the bottom bad liquid to flow out. This will pave way for good thoughts to flow into the mind vessel and the net result will be more and more good thoughts and less and less bad thoughts. This position eventually helps the person to see things in proper perspective and to take a perfect and correct decision.

Sometimes it may not be possible to make a hole at the bottom to drive out the evil thoughts almost completely. In such a scenario, a hole on the side of the vessel a few inches above the bottom can only be possible due to the powerful effects of bad thoughts and feeble forces of good thoughts. Suppose only about 50% of bad thoughts can be removed, then net result will be 75% good thoughts and 25% bad thoughts. In such a situation, Mind will often be forced to take a wrong decision and to avoid such a position, Mind should always interract with Intellect - keeping Ego and Emotions at a great distance.

In many cases, the good and bad thoughts in the Mind may not be easily distinguishable and so, it becomes a herculian task first to identify them and then to take appropriate remedial steps. Here Inborn Nature comes to our rescue. Such Inborn Nature which is always a permanent companion to the soul, has to be awakened and kindled to help the Mind to take a correct decision. Inborn Nature may be good or bad. If Inborn Nature is good, then the Mind with the support of Intellect can arrive at a correct decision. If on the other hand, Inborn Nature is bad, then the Mind will clash with Intellect and Ego siding with Bad Thoughts in the Mind, Incorrect Decision will be taken by such afflicted person. Such Inborn Nature - Good or Bad, has the power to travel to the Mind from the soul to influence the thoughts and decision making and then rush back to the soul. Such Inborn Nature is otherwise called Subconscious Mind - a companion to soul from birth to death.

There are ways and means to remedy the situations and also to aid the Mind in its times of turmoil.

Remedy lies in listening to elders' advices, in valueing moral and ethical values in the day-to-day life, in spending sufficient time in prayers and in religious discourses and also in reading ethical, religious and spiritual literature.

If Light comes, then Darkness cannot hold the fort anymore. Good thoughts in the form of Light brighten up the space, then Evil thoughts in the form of Darkness will be driven out. Illumination of the space depends upon the power of Light. If the power of Light is sufficient enough, then the Darkness will be completely perish to make the mind 'light'.

Yes, Light means here Brightness as well as Weightlessness - Brightness due to good thoughts and Weightlessness due to worryless state.

Let us keep our Mind always 'LIGHT'.

Om Shanthi, Om Shanthi, Om Shanthi.
