Basant Panchami or Saraswathi Panchami or Saraswathi Jayanti – on 16th February 2021 – Tuesday.

Goddess Saraswati is believed to have born on Basant Panchami and hence it is also called as Saraswati Jayanthi.

Saraswati symbolizes knowledge, music and arts in Hinduism.

Basant Panchami is celebrated during 'Shukla Paksha' or the Full Moon fortnight in the month of Magha of the Hindu calendar.

This is also the day when little children are introduced to alphabets in a beautiful ceremony known as 'Akshar-Abhyasam' or 'Vidya-Arambham'. It is a big day for schools and colleges in different parts of the country.

Goddess Saraswati is usually dressed in a white and yellow saree which are important colours during the festival. The devotees even prepare snacks and sweets having yellow colours. As a preparatory ritual, Khichdi bhog and jiggery are offered in Saraswati’s temples and then they are distributed to the worshipers as prasad.

People also dress goddess Saraswati in white and yellow as they associate it with being her favourite colours. White and Yellow are the dominant colours of the festival as people dress in those colours.

This Saraswati Pooja is very popular in the eastern part of the country – viz. West Bengal, Orissa and Bihar. This festival is similar to Saraswati Pooja during Navaratri Festival being celebrated in Southern part of the country – viz. Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Karnataka and Kerala.

LET US ALL BE BEWTOWED WITH KNOWLEDGE TO LIVE A PURE AND MEANINGFUL LIFE.
