Adi Shankara, along with Madhava and Ramanuja, was instrumental in the revival of Hinduism.

These three teachers formed the doctrines that are followed by their respective sects even today.

They have been the most important figures in the recent history of Hindu philosophy.

Shankaracharya also wrote 23 books on the basics of Advaita Vedanta philosophy explaining the truth of a transcendent or undivided Brahman. Atma Bodh, Vivek Chudamani, Upadesh Sahasri and Vakya Vritti are some of these.

QUOTES OF ADI SHANKARACHARYA

v Like a dream full of attachments and hatred, the world appears to be true till awakening.

v Knowing that I am different from the body, I need not neglect the body. Body is a vehicle which I use to transact with the world. This is the temple that has the pure soul within. To be free from bondage the wise man must practice discrimination between the One-Self and the Ego-Self.

v Happiness comes only to those who do not seek happiness. Everything starts moving towards its nature. I always wish for happiness, which is my true nature. My nature is never a burden to me. Happiness is never a burden to me, while sadness is.
