KRISHNA JAYANTHI ON 30TH AUGUST 2021 – MONDAY

Lord Krishna was eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu and was born on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha  (dark fortnight) of the month of Bhadrapad.

His birthdayday is known by different names like Gokulashtami, Krishnashtami, Sree Jayanthi and Shri Krishna Jayanthi.

Lord Krishna was born to Vasudeva and Devaki in Mathura at mid-night in the prison. Devaki’s brother was King Kamsa, the Ruler of Mathura who imprisoned Vasudev and Devaki as a priest foretold Kamsa that the couple’s eighth son would bring demise to him.

The first six children of Devaki were instantly killed by Kamsa.

But their seventh child, Balaraman’s foetus was magically transferred to the womb of Princess Rohini.

Similarly, the eighth child – Lord Krishna was saved by Vasudeva who carried the child from the prison and handed over to Yashodha and Nanda living in Vrindavan.

Lord Krishna’s early life at Vrindavan was full of fun, valor and joy. His love for milk, curd and butter had made him along with his friends to break the pots hanging in the houses of Gopikas containing them and hence Krishna was called as the ‘Makhan Chor’. This mischievous act of Krishna is now widely celebrated during his birthday known as the Dahi Handi Celebration. The participants are called as ‘Govindas’ who form a human pyramid to break the pot containing Prasad and Prize Money.

On Krishna’s Janmastami, it is considered auspicious to recite or listen to the tenth Chapter of the holy book – The Bhagavad Gita – Vibhuti Yoga – 42 stanzas which reveals Lord Krishna’s infinite glories and opulence.

Prayers to Lord Krishna will expel darkness of our weaknesses, fears, defeatist tendencies and poverty with His Ever Powerful Radiance of Light of His Glories and Mercies and Compassions.

Let His Light be lit in the houses of All Our E-Touch Members.
