Krishna as Lord of Action
Sacrificial duty keeps the wheel of creation in
motion. Those who rejoice in sense pleasure with no sacrificial duties are said
to lead vain and sinful lives.
If any one is delighted, contented and satisfied in
the self, then for such enlightened person, there is no loss by his inaction.
Because he does not depend on anybody for anything.
Lord Krishna said that there was nothing in all the
three worlds – heaven, earth and the lower regions, for Him to do, nor was
there anything worth attaining by Him, yet He continued to work.
Lord Krishna
explained the reasons for His continuous non-stop work as follows: “If I do not
engage in action relentlessly, people would follow My path resulting in the
destruction of the worlds. Then, I should be the cause of confusion among men
and of their ultimate destruction. I am therefore the Lord of Action.”

A mirror, which is full
of dust, cannot reflect any image. When you remove the dust with a piece of
cloth, your image is clearly visible. Mirror is like your mind and dust is
nothing but Ego born out of lust, greed and anger. The piece of cloth, which
removes the dust, is selfless service to the humanity at large, which includes
sacrificial duties. Mind becomes pure on performance of selfless service. For
them, Work is worship.
A few men abandoning the
world seek the silence of the forestland where they do penance to achieve
enlightenment and salvation. Such sages perform no action and they also do not
depend upon others for anything – their needs are minimal and self-sufficient.
Sun light, when it
passes through a lens, converges into a bright spot, which is capable of burning
cotton. Heat energy, which is inherent in the sunlight, is focused. But, when
the same sun light, when it is allowed to pass through a prism, splits into
many radiant and colorful rays spreading its wings of light wide enough to
cover the entire room.
The sage, who is seeking salvation for him, is akin to
the lens and the man who is involved in services to the mankind, is compared to
the prism. Heat energy of the lens is penance and colorful rays of the prism
are selfless service.
Wheel of the Universe is
to be kept at motion always so that the activities of birth, evolution and
death are kept alive. Lord Krishna is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent
and hence there is nothing for Him to perform. Yet, as role model for the
humans, He performs, as otherwise humans also will become idle beings. Lord
Krishna is the King of Actions.
